Curriculum Overview

The young scientists of seventh grade will explore the wonders of science through experiments, research, technology, and discovery.  Small and large groups will become actively involved in conducting experiments to help them determine the cause and effects that occur, as well as to analyze and draw conclusions at the end of lab work.

We will also expand on skills and knowledge learned in sixth grade.  The Life, Physical, and Earth Science Prentice Hall extbooks will serve as a great tool to reinforce concepts and skills, as well as benefit students in identifying context clues when note taking.  Content knowledge will also be applied when using the scientific method to observe and solve problems.

The following outline provides the main units that will be covered throughout the year:

  1. Prentice Hall Life Science Textbook

    • Viruses, bacteria, protests, and fungi
    • Plants
    • Human Body
      • Circulatory System
      • Respiration and Excretion
      • Fighting Diseases
    • Animals
      • Birds and Mammals
    • Ecosystems and Biomes
  2. Prentice Hall Physical Science Textbook

    • Elements and the Periodic Table
      • Atoms and Bonding
    • Motion and Forces
    • Light
    • Electricity
  3. Prentice Hall Earth Science Textbook

    • Volcanoes
    • Geologic Time
      • Lift, Carry, and Drop
      • Erosion and Deposition

A variety of assessments will be utilized to encourage students to develop their talents and aim for high grades.  The specific factors for grading will consist of the following:

  1. Homework

  2. Projects

  3. In-Class Assignments

  4. Quizzes and Tests

The science program will promote a positive learning environment that will encourage students to become inquisitive and investigative scientists throughout the year.
